What is a Barn Dance?
A
Ceilidh is a sociable dance in which all ages and all levels of
experience can join in and have fun. The dances are all
“called”, that is, the audience is taught the dances and then
guided through them by our experienced caller Dick Walker. So it
doesn't matter if some or all of your guests have never been to
this sort of function before – they just have to be prepared to
get up and have a go! There are all sorts of dances: and all are
chosen so that any one can do them.
What
sort of events are suitable for Barn Dancing?
Almost
any. We do fund
raisers for all sorts of different organisations; weddings;
birthday parties; christenings; bar mitzvahs; festivals;
conferences; corporate events, or anywhere that people want to
party and ensure everyone can join in. Ceilidh dancing is perfect
for all ages and all levels of experience so they can work on any
occasion.
How
long does a Ceilidh last?
Well
really that’s up to you. It takes us about 30 minutes to set up
and from there we play for four hours with only one break. We can
do longer but there will need to be more breaks. The bottom line
is how long can you dance for?
People
cannot dance all night – so what else do you do?
The band are highly
experienced musicians and aim to provide interesting and
entertaining music in a “rootsy” style so even when people
need to sit down they are entertained by the music and of course
by watching others dance.
I
have heard live bands – there’s no way to hear yourself think
never mind talk!
Ceilidh
music is not disco, rock or rave. It is played at a level that
allows all people to be entertained so you will not need your ear
defenders.
